Missouri MSHP Arrest Search

Who was arrested in Missouri by the state patrol? The Missouri State Highway Patrol covers the whole state. It makes arrests during traffic stops, criminal cases, and boating enforcement. Its arrests show up in an online arrest search and in dated news releases. Report copies come through the Patrol's records channels. That search tool, HP71, covers only Patrol arrests and flags its data as preliminary. Here's a catch worth knowing. A trooper's arrest often gets booked at a local county or regional jail. The Patrol page may then lack the current custody entry or booking photo. Missouri recent arrests can land in several places, and this page maps them all.

How MSHP Arrests Are Recorded

Start with what the Patrol actually is. The Missouri State Highway Patrol polices the whole state, not one jail. Its Field Operations Bureau spans Troops A through I. The troops handle traffic, boating, and criminal work outside city limits. They also back up local agencies. Need to find which district handled a report? The troop index answers that. An MSHP arrest record is only one piece of the story. The trooper writes the report. A local facility may do the booking. The court records the outcome later.

This split between report, booking, and court trips up a lot of searches. A county named on a Patrol report is a routing clue, nothing more. It doesn't mean the person is sitting in that county's jail. A sheriff, a city jail, or a regional facility may have taken the booking. The county roster holds the live custody entry and any booking image the facility posts. The Patrol's own record stays preliminary and unofficial.

MSHP Troops and Arrest County

The MSHP field structure has Troops A through I. The troop label is useful when asking the Patrol to find a report, especially if the event date or report number is known. It is not a jail name. A troop may serve a broad area, while the jail record is held by the county or regional operator that accepted the person.

The troop headquarters index shows the official routing. A city police arrest inside a municipal area may use a different arresting agency even when a state trooper later assists. The agency named on the report should receive the first records request. When an online entry lists a county, open that locality’s official booking source and verify which jail held the person.

Where MSHP Arrests Are Published

MSHP splits its arrest information into separate channels. Person-level arrests, dated news, and public records each live in their own spot. No single Patrol dispatch page covers all three. Pick the channel that matches your question, and read its limits before trusting any single result.

Official channelWhat it providesLimit
Online Arrest Reports (HP71)Searchable Patrol arrest entries and report detailPreliminary, unofficial, automatically posted, five-day display
News ReleasesDated enforcement and arrest announcementsSelective narrative, not a full roster
News ArticlesBroader Patrol stories and featuresNot a daily booking list
RSS News FeedAlternate route to available agency newsDoes not add a separate arrest database
Public Records CenterRequests for reports, logs, and other recordsProcessing and release depend on the request and record status

For the big picture, turn to the annual and program reports. MSHP's 2024 and 2025 reports summarize statewide enforcement, including impaired-driving crackdowns, citations, and arrests. Those figures are dated aggregates. They won't give you a person-level arrest record.

The MSHP News Releases index shows the dated format used for selected Patrol announcements.

Treat the release archive as the agency's stated news. It is not a full arrest list for county or city officers. The Patrol's Most Wanted notices are linked from its official site navigation too. A wanted notice is separate from the arrest-report search. It can change the moment a warrant is served or recalled. Check with the named agency.

The MSHP site map points to Patrol’s Most Wanted section and the separate report tools.

This navigation link leads to a separate public notice. It is not a county roster. Nor does it guarantee a current warrant.

Find an MSHP Arrest Record

HP71 keeps its search fields simple. A result can show the arrest report number, name, age, city and state, date and time, arrest county, and troop. Start broad. Spelling variations sink more searches than anything else. Then compare the county and event details before calling a result a match.

Search fieldHow it narrows the report
First and last nameFinds a person record; check spelling and age before identifying someone
Arrest countyRoutes the result toward the likely booking county
TroopShows the MSHP field unit tied to the report
Person city and stateDescribes the location associated with the person record
Arrest dateNarrows the event date within the search window
  1. Open the official Online Arrest Reports search and enter the known name or date.
  2. Use county and troop filters to narrow a likely result. Do not treat a same-name record as confirmed identity.
  3. Record the report number, arrest county, and date shown so the proper agency can locate the underlying file.
  4. Ask the named county jail or booking agency whether it has the person’s custody record and photo.

HP71 is not a county jail roster. No result there? The arrest may belong to another agency. It may fall outside the five-day display, or the data may simply lag behind the online page.

Limits of the MSHP Arrest Search

HP71 posts automatically and warns that its information is preliminary and unofficial. An entry can point you to a report. It may still miss details from the original file or later changes. The five-day retention is just an online display limit. It's not a law that destroys the record on day six.

A blank result has several possible causes. The event may not have involved MSHP at all. The record may have slid past the display window. A name or date may have been entered differently in the system. The data may not have caught up yet. Someone arrested may also have been released or transferred before you check the county roster. For current custody, call the jail that took the booking. For a case outcome, use the public court docket and confirm the identity.

Missouri's Sunshine Law opens arrest reports to the public. Statutory closure and redaction rules stay intact. The Patrol's record request page lists several record categories. Arrest reports should be requested directly from the Patrol rather than taken from the HP71 screen. County and city custodians stay responsible for their own records.

Where MSHP Arrestees Are Booked

The Patrol runs no statewide jail of its own. When MSHP makes an arrest, the person is booked at whatever county or regional jail the troop chooses for that event. So the first question is simple: which agency did the booking? Ask the named agency to confirm the location. Once you know it, that county or jail roster is the place to check. A current custody entry or booking photo would appear there. Released arrestees may drop off the live roster. The arrest report stays on file with the agency.

Booking location: An arrest county is a routing clue, not a guarantee about the jail. Verify which local or regional facility accepted the person.

Start in the Missouri County Directory. Open the county or city page and follow its official booking source from there. Someone already in state custody or under supervision needs a different tool. Use the Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Web Search instead. That system tracks state cases, not fresh county bookings. A DOC identification image is not a county booking photo.

Request an MSHP Arrest Report

Record requests go through MSHP's Criminal Justice Information Services Division and its Public Records Center. The scope is broad. Arrest and incident reports, investigative files, radio tapes or logs, crash reports, water-patrol material, and criminal-history records are all covered. Be specific. Name the record type. Name the event too, when you want an arrest report or radio log. A general agency criminal-record check will not fill that role. It is a separate product, not a substitute for the arrest report itself.

  1. Open the Patrol’s public-record request page and select the record category that matches the event.
  2. Use the Public Records Center or submit a written, mail, fax, or in-person request as the agency allows.
  3. Include the date, arrest county, troop, report number if known, record type, and preferred format.
  4. Review the invoice after processing. MSHP lists personal check, money order, cashier’s check, and business check as payment methods, and allows records review to be arranged.

MissHP sets no statewide mugshot fee of its own. Instead, the Sunshine Law's general request rules govern, including § 610.023 on response timing and § 610.026 on copy and actual service costs. A custodian should answer promptly, though older or complex Patrol files can stretch the wait. MSHP suggests allowing roughly 20 to 30 business days when a record is archived, more than five years old, active, or complex. Treat that as an agency estimate for those cases. It is not the deadline for every request.

The MSHP public-record instructions direct users to the current request center and explain the agency’s process.

Ask about an estimate up front. Staff time or special processing can add cost, so save your request reference along with the report number.

DUI Patrols and Enforcement Results

MSHP does not publish one complete statewide impaired-driving blotter. What it offers instead is program and enforcement results. Annual reports give dated totals for projects, drivers contacted, citations, and impaired-driving or other arrests. A checkpoint or DWI release names the operation and its announced outcome. Troops A through I come into play here. They explain why a troop field shows up in HP71 and in report requests. The troop index can help route a question. Still, the arrest county and the booking agency decide where the jail record lives. Traffic, boating, criminal enforcement, and local assistance can each hand off to a different agency. The handoff comes at the next stage.

The official HP71 arrest search is the person-level channel for a recent Patrol entry.
